I don’t know a lot about Marilyn Monroe so I cannot speak on the authenticity of the portrayal but Ana de Armas gives a great performance. The movie centres largely around her mental illness and sexual exploitation which is rather ironic because there is a lot of senseless nudity throughout the film, so much so that it would be an uncomfortable viewing with certain people. I think the primary gripe with the film is that Marilyn was supposedly highly intelligent and only one moment really denoted to that and most the time her character comes across as sort of infantile. However, she did struggle with mental illness and father issues so that just may be a large trait of her flawed perfection.
Overall I enjoyed gaining insight into the starlets life as the adversity she faced throughout deepened my respect for her and left me with a pensive sadness.
