The idea was good and it drew me in at first, but before I was halfway through realised that the plot just seemed to be made up to fit the obvious ending. The stage was the real world but the incidents and story never impacted it, the story just went on oblivious to everything else. I too was bored before the auction but somehow finished the read and felt disappointed. Wish I could have gone back through my front door and put the book back on the shelf in the bookstore.
