To like the movie Cats, you have to be pre-disposed to like it. I saw the play back when it first came out and I liked it then. The cats talked to the audience and there was a bit of audience participation of sorts. This movie was badly done in terms of choreography. They totally missed the opportunity of making this a great movie if they had gone in a different direction. The original poems (used as lyrics for songs), and the simple plot of good over evil could have been a great children's "lesson" movie that would be enjoyed by adults had the singing and dancing been done better. The only bright spot in the movie for me was Jennifer Hudson's version of the song "Memories" and her facial expressions as she sang the song. Totally convincing and worthy of another supporting actress nod for the Oscar. However, because the movie has been generally paned, it is unlikely that she will get the recognition for her work that she deserves.
