I can’t get past the terrible dialogue. Nicholas throughout is saying the most odd one liners with a staunch face. I laughed a couple of times. They made little to no effort in the first 15 minutes of the movie to build the characters up. Other than a scene between a main character and a women that lasted 2 minutes. However it was apparently long enough for the character to develop a fondness of her. Ultimately, I did not care whether the characters lived or died. The story was not developed. The audience is never told why buffalo skins are important in the context of history. Perhaps I simply missed the point of the movie.

I used to love this movie when I was younger, still do! I now see it through a completely different light, however. Tainted by life experience, I don’t ever think that Joe and Kathleen’s relationship is one of true worth. While I do adore the fun of the movie, and the laughs. Some important, perhaps mundane, takeaways that I found were: you can always start anew, kindness is always important and boycott malls!
