I understand that Chapelle joked about R Kelly. I’ve watched Chapelle’s netflix special numerous times, but never once did I think those victims didn’t suffer and that R Kelly isn’t evil. I can separate humor from the seriousness of the case. Most comedians content is based off of struggles that they’ve either witnessed firsthand or from view. Now all I’m saying is, nothing Dave Chapelle has said will make me ease up on the principle that R Kelly is evil. However I understand that if you are a victim of assault or witness the Dave Chappell special can be traumatic to watch. Not everyone agrees with certain humor, but that’s what humor is you find humor that fits you. But I want to make clear that his special in no way was belittling the victims, we are laughing at how stupid R Kelly is. Part of this laughter towards him doesn’t undermine this situation but shows that no one takes him serious, he’s a joke. The pain victims endured is not a laughing matter and was never discussed as one. All I feel is empathy and sympathy for these females who were taken advantage of. And I’m disgusted at people who have the nerve to send death threats and emails to these people, as if they haven’t endured enough pain. I’m am so happy that these victims are sharing their story and empowering other females to come forward. Justice will be served.
