I judged this show prematurely because the commercials made it look idiotic, but now I know that its essence simply cannot be captured in such a small snippet of time.
I regret not watching it sooner.
This show swings from clever to hilarious and mildly inappropriate to downright dirty, but it never ceases to be profound.
Never.
The relationships between characters are so deep and realistic, they blow away other shows and movies and even most real life connections. The spot-on reactions each individual has to not only each other, but their turmoils and the world around them, is beautifully original. The depth of each character is so realistic it's unreal.
Unlike other shows and films, this series manages to be profound in an extremely subtle way that is riveting, and most importantly, relatable. Sometimes it takes one simple sentence, uttered melancholy over a flask of bourbon, to flood your body with a strong emotion. It manages to be funny and clever while exploring the darkness that accompanies us throughout our lives.
The animation, although simplistic and filled with jagged lines, somehow does not leave anything to be desired. The unorthodox camera angles and architecture in the opening introduction are perfect examples.
After reading the comments, I feel as if I'm beating a dead Bojack, but I still feel the need to reiterate that the script is flawless. This show is RIDICULOUSLY well-written.
I have nothing but praise. 10/10
