Loved this sumptuous period drama replete with glorious vistas , elegant interiors and opulent costuming. The cast is uniformly excellent with a very sympathetic heroine and hero. It is a bit of a melodrama but the plight of a pure and noble hearted couple being separated by material concerns, a topic oft discussed by Jane Austen deserves wider recognition. Anthony Trollope presents even his most villainous character as multi- dimensional and even his most traditionally “good” characters as having the capacity for a little mischief a refresinglly modern alternative to the one dimensional portrayals presented by some of his contemporaries. Over all a delightful escapist romp about the travails of the 1% of the 18th century.
