I’ve seen RSRD before and knew the outcome, but I’ve just enjoyed a second viewing with heart pounding as if it were all really happening. Let’s face it, the performances of Mr. Gable and Mr. Lancaster elevated this film from a superb war movie to warrant the descriptive “masterpiece”. Nothing fancy. War was hell. But sometimes you get the thrill of watching your side display courage and end up victorious too. A wonderful movie for boys and girls who love great filmmaking.

A lovely movie that I really enjoyed. Very heavily biased towards Christianity, but that was probably accurate for the United States at that time. I liked the humor, the feistiness of Mrs. Spence and the kids, and the performances of the actors, particularly Fredric March. Although it seemed like an idealized life they led, being willing and able to accept whatever miserable conditions came their way, it was an intimate look at a nice family.

This series kept me on edge and wanting to know more about all if the main characters. There were a few slow scenes, but they were important for fleshing out the characters. The ultimate arrest of the rapist seemed to lack drama, but I blame that on tv crime shows. It was probably more realistic than what we usually see. The post arrest episodes were suspenseful because we didn’t know if the perp would get the sentence we hoped for. I liked that we didn’t know any of the actors except Toni Collette, whom I love. But, Toni’s husband should have been played by an older guy. They didn’t seem to match. That said, I loved this miniseries and will watch it again.
