Deducted a star for a elongated boring ending...not the last page, but the preceding gardening pages meant as a long metaphor for how the roots of our past are forever entwined in our present and future, but can never be erased. This book is HARROWING. I desperately wanted a happy ending. Hubby laughed at my endless sighing, I was sooo desperate for this book to end. It is a major treatise of familial abuse. Disturbing and never let's up.

Unrealistic, simplistic, but just pacey enough to give you hope of a good ending just to revert to the old trope "she was mentally ill all along". Its a shame as the author can write. Just a simplistic view and bringing in plural marriage without any depth or realism to it. Could have been better.
