I watched the original movies and the TV series. I believe the writers have done a great job creating a new world, rebooting the story and sticking into some of the original source material. The movie is story-driven, action-packed and it has a better looking RoboCop.
Apart from the previous movies, the director shows the difficulty of carrying a family as a detective than the original movies. In the original source, it's just bits and pieces of flashbacks of Alex Murphy's family with no storyline. Also, the original movie was driven towards the Alex's partner Lewis more than with his family. Alex is a family man and why original movies improvise a romantic gesture towards lewis? It does not make any sense. Either Alex is not faithful to his family or was it just a cheap approach to build up a relationship between Alex and Lewis?
In the reboot, I believe the director and writers wanted to show how Alex Murphy lives through it all, emotional and emotionless. It's a fresh story that was built beyond the original movie including all original elements. This movie does deserve more credit than it has received.
