The show is a makjang to the highest degree that prides itself on its ridiculousness. It really translated as a cheap Bollywood movie or soap opera at times.
The issue for me were the sudden switches in tone - it will constantly go from having a coherent, logical plot that makes you want to take the show seriously for 30 minutes and invest in the story, to a very illogical, confusing plot line (s2e1 for example) that completely takes you out of the immersive experience and makes the writing look really weak and superficial.
There’s also a lot of overacting, screaming and gratuitous violence and action that cheapens the show and can be a headache to watch.
Its high ratings I think come from being a great form of cheap entertainment - constantly throwing twists at you, visually stimulating with a lot going on, the petty relationships between married coupled - but it is very weak in terms of actual writing, character development, execution etc.
After eleven episodes there were enough scenes and character exposition that one could begin to follow the story however and its ridiculousness became more enjoyable.
The three stars come from its entertainment value but it’s not a good piece of ‘drama’ in the traditional sense when you look at storytelling and characters - SKY Castle and The World of the Married are a completely different standard and were excellent shows of the same genre.
I would watch this if you’re willing to not take it seriously and treat it a bit like a parody. Was still a fun ride.
