C'mon Netflix, allow opportunities to some real budding actors, scriptwriters and directors instead of lazily giving a budget to the same old faces in Bollywood. The Akhtars have tried hard to keep faithful to the Archies Comic adaptations but the entire movie feels false. Casting their 'mates' kids against a backdrop of roller skates, soda shops and twist n shout dance numbers... have Indians really forgot their own history in the 60's/70's? I get this type of movie is an escapist, nostalgic concept based on the simple, do-good world of The Archies, but why do the film burgeouis of India feel the desperate need to please, imitate and kowtow to the Western culture when they have a wealth of homegrown concepts to explore. This movie could have easily adapted the american culture of Archies in Riverdale and embed it with local political issues of the time and explored how Eurasains felt when Indians took back Goa and expelled the Porteguese instead of this superficial storyline! Anyway, the leads werent bad for debut actors but couldnt help wonder of all the lost talent in India not being given a chance due to the monopoly of Bollywood families giving their nearest and dearest roles.
