I think this is a brilliant version. I do not use it as my study Bible when I want to delve deeply in to the exact meaning of a text - then I will look at a more literal version and tools that help me understand the original languages. In the vast majority of the cases these studies show that the NLT reading is valid or justified even if other meanings or nuances are possible. Where the NLT scores heavily is in the overall sense of passages of scripture. It is so easy to read whole chapters and multiple chapters which then gives a proper perspective. It makes Bible reading a real pleasure because you aren't having to stop every other verse to check you have understood correctly. It greatly aids us becoming familiar with the whole Bible because the more difficult or, dare I say, tedious sections can be read quickly with understanding helping us to resist the temptation to skip them. I avoid the Message and the Passion versions because they intrude too much of the authors own peculiar interpretations - this one I trust to give me a sound grasp of what the Bible means and I can then dig deeper, using reference materials, into those passages I want to explore more fully. The choice of vocabulary is also good - there are few clunky moments and in general it is respectful and clear. I would recommend every English speaking believer to have this version alongside with their KJV, NASB, ESV etc etc.
