I watched the movie because I read the book in High School. I remember never hearing about this awful world of human trafficking and was confused it even exist. I saw it on a display at a library and picked it up since I love novels in verse. The movie is just as tough to watch and the book was to read. Bravo to everyone!
Spoiler alert:
I enjoyed that they had Lakshmi free herself. That was the only part of the book that I did not find great. She is and was a very strong character and it felt weak in the book that it was the Americans that saved the day. I am reading very confusing comments about Americans asking for a kidney... that is the girls' own fears. It is what the brothel tells them to make sure they don't leave with an American or the police.
