Pretty derivative YA. Feels like the kind of story written by 14 year old girls. Id have loved this at 14, but alas I'm an adult who's read many books just like this so I was bored.
Mainly I found the set up of a school/society where its acceptable to kill your fellow students whilst trying to train you for war where trust is a big part of holding your squad/team together nonsensical. I found the drama mined from this premise eye rolling at best. If youve read anything by Sarah J Maas, this is mostly the same vibe but with dragons, and less well defined characters. If you love that you will probably love this, but it's too juvenile for me.

After making me cry within minutes of starting, I spent half the time not knowing the point of anything the characters were doing, and the other half trying to work out who the audience of this series is meant to be. It takes itself way too seriously, and there is very little joy or magic to be found.

Im really enjoying this show. I definitely enjoy the 80s Australia setting, reminds me of the Neighbours era of my childhood, and it is the sort of comedy of escalating mistakes that makes you a bit anxious. The emotional dramas arent looked in to in too much depth, but it is funny and I just can't stop watching it.
