Critics have missed the mark. Velvet Buzzsaw is stylized both in acting and script, purposely. The vehicle is up for attack as well as the content. This is the films purpose. Art without love can be empty and ego driven. Malkovich is one who survives and walks away. Coco is innocent. For Russo it is too late as for Gyllenhal. The young up and comer sees the emptiness and pulls away from this world. The end is a celebration of nature and Art as its handmaiden. Ego vs Art is an eternal theme. Damned in this case if you 'do'. The great writer Kafka attempted to burn all of his works because of the ego train it left. Glad he did not and this is the conundrum. Velvet Buzzsaw is a brilliant piece just look beyond the ego boundaries that the film itself creates in the viewer.
