Varavelpu is a classic. It’s an ode to the lost decade of opportunity. While it deftly portrays the fragility of family relations, also brings about strong bonds one develops where less expected , whether Murali’s childhood friend or Rama. The movie could easily be fitted into any other region of India at the same time, perhaps even today albeit in a bit different context. The movie was much ahead of its time, also very brave in depiction of reality. Quite sure, a similar movie released today would have run into multiple issues of cuts and controversies. A refreshing film.. Feels nice as well as sad after the movie is done. Also, a silent tribute to thousands of Indians who are forced to work miles away from home , just to ensure livelihood...
Finally, as a non Malayalam speaking audience, this movie only proves that great cinema always has a global appeal.
