SPOILER WARNING FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT WATCHED JAKE AND THE NEVER LAND PIRATES, ESPECIALLY THE FINAL SEASON:
This along with Sofia the 1st are the best Disney Junior shows out there. I do not understand the hate that comes to this series as a whole? Maybe because it's a Peter Pan spin-off? Just accept it as an alternate universe from the films, it's just trying to be its own thing.
The characters are all amazing. I don't get why people think that the series is sexist because it only has one female character. Like, get over yourselves guys.
The first 2 seasons were interactive and while the Dora the Explorer/Go Diego Go cliches of speaking to the audience got repetitive as hell, when you exclude that, it makes up for with good and interesting stories. The episodes where Peter Pan visited Never Land were prime examples as this alone. The show actually has a back-bone apart from audience interactions, so it has some darn effort in it.
The third season was the best among all the seasons. It understood that its audience members were growing up so they couldn't stick to the cookie-cutter stories. By far the best story is Battle for the Book, which has a lot of references to the Peter Pan films, and for the few fans who view this series as canon, you could easily view JATNLP as an interquel to the film duology.
The 4th season was decent, but had a lot of flaws: For one, the animation style was different and really off-putting. I got used to Mercury Filmworks' animation style for the series and now I have to see this anime-esque style? Secondly, the 4th season only had one 4th wall break per episode and it got super distracting. They should've just altered the Gold Dubloons point in the episode if they didn't want to get into the audience interactions bit.
Thirdly, this is something which has bothered me for years.
At the end of The Great Neversea Conquest, Jake destroys the DarkLight Emerald that Lord Fathom used to gain control of the Never Sea and awake the Strake. In the final scene, we see that Fathom has saved a tiny sliver of the emerald and he vows vengeance upon Jake and will take over the Never World.
In the Season 4 episode, The Legion of Pirate Villains, we see that Lord Fathom's power has finally returned and he goes to awaken the Strake, but ultimately, he ends up loosing the emerald after running into Captain Hook and chases after it.
That is all we see.
A month later, they cancelled the series after the team moved onto Mickey Mouse Mixed Up Adventures, (the successor to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, which Disney Junior milked way too hard). The finale ultimately left us on a cliffhanger as to what the battle with Lord Fathom would be.
I didn't even know that the show was cancelled until 2 years later!
This major flaw had ultimately ruined the 4th season for me and after half a decade, there's not much of a chance that Disney will renew the series for a 5th season, especially now that Mickey Mouse Mixed Up Adventures is getting a crossover with Clubhouse.
