I didn't know what to expect from Blonde (was actually hesitant to watch it: just another movie about Marilyn!) after having viewed several movies about Marilyn Monroe over the years but this movie is extremely well done. The acting of all is superb but especially Armas. She became Marilyn, gently exuding emotions fitting for each scene but never coming across as corny or overacting.
Blonde is a movie that shows the battle Norma Jean had with her Hollywood manufactured alter ego, Marilyn Monroe, and her fight to be taken seriously while the world saw her as a sexy airhead blonde and men used her throughout her life. This movie addresses Marilyn's internal battles and emotional scars that haunted her until the day she died unlike the usual movies made about her in the past that didn't address this side of her to the extent this movie does,. To some it may be depressing at times but that was also true in Marilyn's life. All was not happiness and glamour for Marilyn.
The storyline is based on fact as well as the use of some creative liberties for good reasons to give the viewer a sense of who Marilyn really was and what she went through in her life instead of the usual nice, tidy, and glamorous story of her life as so many movies have been.
The directing and filming thoughout the movie is very creative and artful in a good way with the use of black and white or color, the lighting (which is outstanding in each scene) and the perspective of the filming in scenes which adds so much to the atmosphere and story of this movie.
Parts of Blonde that some may not agree with in this Woke and politically correct atmosphere of 2022 are appropriate for the timeline of this movie which takes place from the 1930's to 1962. The casting couch and illegal abortions existed then and to rewrite history to please the Woke mentaiity would be to fictionalize much of Marilyn's life. That was how life was then and should be in the movie. A very entertaining, well done and unique approach to the life of Marilyn Monroe.
