Meh. Full disclosure, I don’t have a lot of exposure to the x-men franchise, which could play heavily into my opinion. I just wasn’t impressed with the script. The actors were impressive and did the best they could with what they had, and the effects were engaging/realistic. The horror elements felt thrown-in and out of place, and there wasn’t much build-up to warrant any of the “scares”. I loved the honest portrayal of the young lesbian couple, and how that wasn’t a part of marketing— people will get upset about it but that’s a them problem. The story felt both rushed and slow at the same time, and the script was so full of fluff and cliches I literally whispered upcoming lines to my friends before they were said onscreen. I’d watch it again if someone else was paying.
