This is a great book for people who want to go into the second world war in detail. The inclusion of stories and accounts of civilians as well as soldiers really helps to see the war from the eyes of the people that participated and witnessed it. Accounts of higher ranking officers and leaders also gives an insight into their way of thinking and handling of the war. The pictures of events of the war also help the reader visualize the world at that point of time. While it may seem that the sheer length of the book would make it develop into a boring compilation of statistics, Beevor manages to hold onto the reader's attention and keep the book enjoyable while also providing acute details of the war. For someone who wants to know about the details of all the fronts of the war, this is the book for you. Overall a great read that managed to keep me hooked untill the very end.
