If you've read any or all of the Spenser books, you will be dismayed by this tragic attempt to transfer one of them into a movie. Robert Parker would be embarrassed. It is gratuitously vulgar and the violence was overdone. A normal human being could never endure the violence visited upon Spenser and avoid lengthy hospitalizations, let alone be able to get up and walk around with a band-aid on his cheekbone. It is not redeemed by its many attempts to be humorous. Not recommended.
