I wish the inverted Tenet magic was real so I could go back in time and unwatch this movie.
I am a huge fan of Inception. Probably my favorite live-action movie of all time, even surpassing the Harry Potter movies in my opinion. So I was very excited to hear that a similar movie by the same director was coming out.
The first scene was loud and confusing, but I knew in many action movies it would be that way, and then the plot would be explained later. However, to say there was a plot would be an overstatement. There were so many moments where I just stared at the screen and went “...what?” I had no idea what was happening and still don’t. The idea of Tenet as a dimensional system is interesting, the inversion makes for many impressive action moments. But it was handled so poorly. Here’s a scene that I’m 99% sure happened when the producers were making this movie:
“Okay, so we need side plot ideas.”
“I know! There’s an Indian woman who is controlling-“
“Oh oh and what about there’s a turf practice war-“
“Guys what if [character redacted for spoilers] died at the beginning and the inversion brought him-“
“Wait what if the woman has a toxic relationships and child-“
“Ooh I know there’s also a bullet sized pill-“
“-and the guy can reset the universe-“
“-then there’s the plutonium it can create Tenet!”
“Maybe he could say he’s the protagonist of the story and it could break the fourth wall kinda and-“
“GUYS GUYS THE OPERA!”
