I've always found the empress an interesting historical character. However, for the average movie goer, the film is mundane which I guess is supposed to represent her feelings as being part of the monarchy. If your really into history, and enjoy historical films the you will enjoy. I can see my husband knapping within the first 20 minutes of this movie. There is no climax, just a glimpse into her life for the year.
