Yeah, no. One of the most heavy handed, maudlin, and unpleasant things I've ever watched. Every single character was disappointing. Makes no sense that a sensitive kid afraid of monsters under the bed is going to randomly follow a homeless guy to a drug den because "He likes my graffiti tag"(seriously?). BC, who starts out troubled but playful, transforms into a writhing ball of toxicity that you can't muster an iota of sympathy for. Sorry mom- that goes for you too. Oh, all the red herrings- was the kid held for ransom because the grandparents are super rich? No. (there is no reason for the to be real estate developers at all). Is there any connection at all between the 2 missing children? No. Then comes the pounding us over the head with racism and homophobia and corrupt cops- every white male on the show except the 9 year old is evil, and every black character is noble. Without a single exception. Meanwhile, even the gay characters, who are supposed to be sympathetic, are all portrayed as either pedophiles or mingling with them, so the tone of the entire show feels creepy in this very homophobic way. I feel sucker punched for watching to the end. Shame on me.
