This movie is nothing short of a masterpiece, the acting, writing, soundtrack, cinematography, and everything else is absolutely incredible. It managed to be haunting and gruesome but also beautiful and cathartic. That being said this is definitely an art house film; it’s not like a blockbuster full of CGI and high speed action and movement. It’s feels like the movie grabs you by the wrist and pulls you through a tunnel of chaos and beauty. The grip tightens until your left smiling at the end just as you’d hope. The people who think this movie is awful we’re probably expecting just a horror film but above all else it’s a drama. People seem to think that it’s pointless and doesn’t have a plot. Just because the characters don’t say clearly “I’m going to do this because...” doesn’t mean it’s completely useless. You don’t know the characters motivations and the reason you can’t find them is because your looking at this movie on the surface; but the most important and spectacular part is what’s under the surface. Nothing is told to you upfront it’s the subtle details that bring it together and the people who hate it just don’t have the brain to see subtle things instead they want constant action and jump scares because they have a short attention span. Don’t be discouraged give it a chance, and if your feeling confused look up a video explanation on YouTube. Try Acolytes Of Horror’s video called “How Midsommar Brainwashes You.”
