8/10 solid performance from the actors and decent plot. This review will carry some mild spoilers so be prepared for that.
The movie starts off a bit slow but also hooks you with the dialogue as if you’d be missing out on some foreshadowing so the slow pace didn’t bother me much. I couldn’t tell if Steven Yuen was a villain or just a messed up kid but honestly I don’t blame him that Chimp scene was probably the most terrifying part in the film for me.
Here’s where the real spoilers come in. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the alien that was shown to us in the movie. At first they said it was a ship and that was really cool to me, but then they showed the scene with the aliens in the stable and I was down right SCARED, but then it was just a prank and we find out the really alien is the ship itself.
I’m not sure how OJ figured out that flying saucer that was beaming people and horses into the sky was an “animal.” It looked like a ship and at no point in the film was I convinced it was anything other than a ship. I think they really missed an opportunity to have some really scary aliens in the movie but if we’re just going with my logic and saying that thing was in fact a ship piloted by some smaller humanoid life forms, then A+.
They did really capture the terror and uncertainty of humans in a situation like this by making the alien as mysterious and stubborn as it was.
I don’t really get the message of the film at all, and I’m not even sure there has to be one, but pretty solid film. I’ll def rewatch.
