definitely not historical. It was an obvious communist propaganda movie for those who know true history. The danger is that many will think that this is history or the way it was. Franco was a man who saved Spain from Russian Bolsheviks who thought it was fun to rape nuns and kill priests and steal people's property and impose an authoritarian govt, like China has......Yet somehow this movie tries its best to make Franco look bad. It does not even bother to let people know that Franco allowed Jews to escape Germany through Spain as Spain was not controlled by Hitler. In fact, the two met and decided that they would not work together. Under communism, most people are just slaves with no rights....is that what the republic wanted??? Well why did those people not go live in China or Russia??? Franco saved Spain from the fate that the poor Russians had, where Stalin killed sixty million Christians. Thank God for Franco who stood up for Christians who were being persecuted in Spain as well by the Bolsheviks. I lived in Franco Spain and it was heaven....there was no crime except for the ETA of course with their terrorism. Spain did get punished by the USA. The USA slapped an embargo on Spain that lasted for twenty years. No nation would trade with Spain, except Argentina. In the movie, you will learn that the USA did nothing to Franco....are you kidding, total lie???!!!. You will also learn that the Spain created passports for Nazis to escape through Spain. This did not happen. To receive a Spanish passport, a German would have had to speak perfect Spanish...otherwise how would this type of fraud have been possible? A Spanish person who did not speak Spanish??? really?? It was not enough just to take on a Spanish name, you had to speak perfect Spanish to pass for a Spanish person. Well, the Germans, by and large, consider Spanish a very foreign language. They have an expression, "dass kommt mir Spanish vor," which means that they do not understand Spanish at all. I have lived in Germany and know that they did not speak Spanish at all back then, If Germans learned a foreign language, it was English or French....not Spanish. So that bit is also a lie......Franco also did not kill all communists. My aunt was a communist and he did not kill her. He only executed communists who were at the head of the party and were dangerous or had committed crimes against humanity. The communists killed many people in Spain, millions, and millions.....There was a civil war and both sides suffered huge casualties. People who sympathize with the communist characters in this movie, need to study how the Communist revolution came about in China and how miserable the Chinese are as slaves with no rights.........Mao killed eighty million in China... This is what Franco was trying to prevent and he created a Catholic state where the Catholic religion was basically the state religion. It was great!!!...no crime....and wonderful culture....Here in this country, people actually know that they are not really free....there is censorship, very high taxes, and so much regulation, that there is basically no freedom here....yet hypocrites call it a democracy.....
