I just finished watching the movie and, being in the US, was fortunate to see it early. Here are my spoiler-free impressions:
I watched the Hindi version.
Rating:
First half: 5/10
Second half: 11/10
Please support this movie by seeing it in theatres at least once. It is by far the best fantasy Indian movie.
Positives:
- The last 45 minutes feature the best VFX I’ve seen in an Indian movie.
- The integration of Mahabharat sequences into the storyline is excellent.
- Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Hasan deliver outstanding performances.
- The fight sequences involving Ashwathama are well choreographed, and Amitabh is remarkably convincing in these scenes despite his age.
- The scenes in Sambhala, Kashi, the Complex, and the desert are visually stunning.
- The cameo appearances are a delightful addition.
Negatives:
- The Hindi dubbing, especially for Sri Krishna, could have been better.
- Prabhas's entry fight scene is poorly executed and overly long.
- The CGI for young Ashwathama looks unrealistic. Casting a younger actor instead of de-aging Amitabh would have been better.
- Prabhas doesn’t fit his role well; a leaner actor like Ramcharan would have been a better choice.
- Most villains are depicted as inept with guns, never actually shooting them.
- Disha Patani’s character and several other side characters add nothing to the story. Their screen time could have been better used to develop the main characters and storyline, such as exploring Bhairava’s obsession with the Complex, how Supreme Yaskin captured the world, and the background of Sambhala.
- The background score is forgettable; it’s not bad, but it could have been better.
- The film draws heavy inspiration from Guardians of the Galaxy, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Dune, which is quite noticeable.
