Even slighest detail about anything, even an opinion can affect the way we perceive a film, so ya SPOILER ALERT 🚨
A feel of contentment
Coming to varshangalkk shesham the teaser mainly gave me vibes of a comedy film, but trailer was of a particular kind I don't know how to put that into words. At the end of "life of Shazam" review of the trailer he says "enthonnede, etho oru sthalath ethia feel" may be thats what i felt after watching the trailer of VS.
Coming to the film, the initial combination scenes between Dhyan and his father worked well. Introduction of pranav and his chemistry with kalyani was a little off putting. Then the events happen in madras and Swami's lodge, the struggles that outsiders undergo to land their dreams are shown. First laughter riot for me happens when the first act of Aju Varghese is on scren. Mahn how does he manage to make me laugh with his mannerisms, these mannerisms of Aju had always made me laugh since thattathin marayathu. From there, their film production, the emotional conflicts that arise + Nyabagam song takes the film to an emotional high. Pranav's perfomance there could have been better, but is still good. The use of background score really lifts the films emotion, and it reaches it's peak at the deserted house in erode. Those were tear jerking moments for me. Post interval movie shifts its gear from being a emotional drama to more of a comedy with occasional struggles and conflicts which kind of prevents the film from slipping of its core content 'the friendship and bond those 2 protagonist share'. The intro of basil Joseph and use of black humour in the associated scenes worked well with the audience and basil's character gives the film the humor elements so that Nivin could put the icing on the cake that's being prepared. The reception nivin paulys character got in the theatre really made me recall the kind of fan base Nivin has, something only seen with lalettan films. Nivin who had series of flops going on in his career, in this film creates something which make people who want to see his comeback, literally go crazy. The monologue drunken mistake was well recieved by the audience. To be honest, if this film goes on to create good box office numbers its coz of Nivin's character.
Though most of the characters are played by actors who recurr in vineeth sreenivasan films, each one of them has been given it's own importance and space to perform. We can never really see a famous actor/actress being used just for the sake of it.
Verdict: So, if you guys are looking for something that touches you, something about friendship, something which makes you laugh out loud, shed tears but also gives contentment Varshangalkk shesham is for you.
"Varshangalkk shesham, varshangalkk mumbe undaya kore friends and memories ഒക്കെ ഓർക്കുന്ന oru moment, when i was literally crying in climax sequence, when yesteryear scenes are being recalled in a not so vineeth sreenivasan cliche manner"
