I started watching this series due to all the positive reviews. I haven't read the books, so I can't compare it to the author's original.
I was disappointed. It started off with so much promise and had every oppertunity to build suspence and intrigued. It became apparent very quickly that this series was written as something of a Mills and Boon . If that is your sort of thing, then you will enjoy it.
The main character, Clair, showed no true shock, distress, confusion, fear or anguish in scenes that would truly warrant it. She showed more shock at almost being mauled by a boar than when she was almost raped.
It's disingenuous to portray a woman handling the aftermath of almost being raped so flippantly . Every scene she seems to be flirting , act coy, irritated, or haughty where it's highly improbable for someone to act that way.
The scenes are forsed to try and build sexual tension, where it had all the scope to show a woman in conflict with herself and the situation, get the main characters to build that chemistry, and do it in a much more authentic way.
I am not going to finish this season, never mind the series. I am looking for memorable characters and propper storytelling. 2 Stars for the setting and costumes and extras...
