My review I have to admit is bias because I admit when I say I hate scary movies that don’t have a happy ending. I also don’t like scary movies where people are the villains. I can handle monsters, ghosts, demon possessions, but a family of crazies that’s soul pleasure is torturing innocent people? I can’t handle it. The only pleasure I got was in the sequel when they were all killed. If you don’t mind movies where the bad guys win you might like it, but if the strangers or movies like the purge bother you don’t watch it. It’ll scar you. So my one star comes from not knowing what the movie was about and realizing after it was over and having an anxiety attack it wasn’t the movie for me. I appreciate scary movies, but will stick to supernatural ones from now on.

The negatives reviews I have to ask, did we watch the same movie? I suppose everyone has their preference of horror movie. I myself am not a fan of cliched flicks: ones with the corny sexy scenes and ridiculously attractive actors who can’t act their way out of a paper bag. I’m also not very partial to slasher movies simply because they’re all super cliched and usually corny as well. This movie was so much more than that! The acting was wonderful and it kept you on your toes. Another reviewer described the movie as “slow moving.” This is no hereditary or us. Not even close. This movie had constant suspense and there was never a dull moment. I suppose if I could ask for anything else is was perhaps more of a background on how the demon came to be, but I suppose somethings can be explained without actually saying it. I’m not going to get in the scenery or any of that. That’s what the rotten tomatoes critics are for, I’m just a normal person who happens to be a horror fan. I’m also super picky and for me to like a horror movie says a lot. I would give this movie a chance if you’re into horror and especially horror movies that involve demon possessions or poltergeist activity. **spoiler alert/ trigger warning: There is a scene where farm animals are shown slaughtered (no cats or dogs) and there’s several instances of suicide, many of them graphic and gory. I would discourage watching if either of these type of scenes bother you.

I have read the book and watched the first, original movie, many times. As a child the original was scary and was always something we would gather and watch at sleep overs. This movie was disappointing. It almost came off as a comedy rather than the dramatic fantasy the original was. Spoiler alert, the kids aren’t changed back at the end like in the original. Not sure why they went that route, but for me that made the ending super disappointing as you hoped they would be changed back as a happy ending. There was no assistant that changed her ways like in the original. Anne Hathaway did a great performance, but I prefer Angelica Houston’s grand high witch more. I don’t mind remakes, but I really wish they would have stuck to the story instead of changing it around. The no garlic thing was weird and unnecessary.

For the most part it was okay. I liked being able to see two sides to the story: the detective and from the killer himself. That was interesting, but there were too many unanswered questions in the show that never got answered. It was set up to assume there would be a season 2, but upon finding out there wouldn’t be the unanswered questions (for example the wife’s affair) go unanswered and for me ruined the show.

I really wanted to like the movie as I’m much into psychological thrillers and alien abduction types, but this movie was disappointing. There were too many questions that were left unanswered. The biggest for me, why was she so bizarrely obsessed with the horse? Aside from Heather’s accident, which should have been explained in more detail, me the viewer has no idea how it tied into the plot. Even when she shows up in the “dream” the owner simply tells her to leave. I’d thought something dramatic might happen...would she kill him? Would he finally reveal the secret of why she’s so obsessed with the horse? The movie is called horse girl for goodness sakes you’d think there was some sort of better backstory explaining why she was a horse girl, not just some weird horse stable groupie. How does it all tie together with the abductions? And Ron. What was even the point of Ron’s character? He didn’t go crazy and he didn’t remember her, so again pointless. I wouldn’t waste my time watching.
