This show is a work of fiction. It's purpose is to entertain. Although attempts are made to weave in actual historical events that took place in the UK, particularly the Whitechapel area, it in no way attempts to be a documentary. It addresses issues such as the plight of women, the poor, child labor, the evolution of policing and detective work as it progresses with new technology and advances in science, as well as the Victorian Empire's effect on the lands they ruled. There are contrived moments, one could even say "camp", but in the end it is entertaining and at times evokes humor, sadness, and wistfulness. Give it a try, you just might enjoy it!
