I absolutely hated this movie. I have read the book and it really portrays what this is about. The movie however, made changes and the one that really frustrated me the most was the incident at the very heart of the story. In the movie, Khalil(Starr's friend), reaches into the car to grab a brush, pulls it out and is shot by a white police officer. This is NOT correct. In the book, what he DOES do is open the car door to ask Starr is she's okay while he's shot in the back with a brush in the car door. This changes the entire setting and does not portray the real meaning of the story.
