It's agood film but Edward G Robinson has weak and somewhat goopy character in this one. Like him better either as an underling like at a bank, or as a bad guy such as Little Caesar.
Also his dual role with Jean Arthur was exceptional. This one is more interesting with the love interest and the conman than the artist and his controlling mother.
