Great film. Stylish, tongue in cheek black comedy that raises taboo issues about WW1 US veterans and their poor treatment when they got back home. Repeated again, of course, with Vietnam vets. Also timely, given that the Big People in the US are still backing the Alt- Right fascist Trump for election next year, by hook or - as usual - by crook. Crooked Trump!

Normally I love Wes Anderson's whimsical, witty and stylish films but he has finally hit the buffers with this one - and it's going nowhere. It's a self indulgent, plot less and overly long rehash of many old UFO spoofs and the humour fails to ignite. Despite having a stellar cast, the films never rises above pompous and vacuous observations about the absurdity of humanity. " You can't wake up if you don't fall asleep!" is the chant at the end of the film. Well, sorry - I feel asleep several times from boredom!
