I was afraid of watching another attempt of bringing the animated series to life, and unfortunately, my fear was very well founded as I'm reliving the nightmares of a mediocre adaptation once again.
All the characters are lacking a spark, they are just existing because there's no growth for them to achieve.
Aang is never once seen trying to learn the other elements, in this case water since it is supposed to be the first book. He's now afraid of not being able to control his power, which it was never the case, if anything, he's the one with the most control of the whole group. Now he's going to the Northern Water Tribe not to learn how to waterbend but to save them from a tragedy that Kyoshi warned him about. What?
Katara and Sokka are just literally supporting characters, they don't bring anything to the plate besides give Aang company, and they magically become skilleful just because.
Suki was taken off her strong independent female character just to chase the pants of the new guy on the block. And it was so disappointing to watched her taking off her warrior make up for no reason but to step on the Kyoshi warriors traditions.
Everyone is so grumpy and treating Aang like it was his decision to froze himself because he was lazy and he didn't want to do his Avatar job, even Bumi, which he is the one with the most carefree personality. They took the fun out of all the characters, I know they are at war, but that never prevented them of having empathy on the animated series.
The bending scenes get old really fast. I don't know why they thought that adding slow motion to every fight sequence was a good idea, especially when the bending looks so heavy already.
I know they are trying to condensed the episodes, but there were like 5 episodes, with different places, characters and storytelling, all mix in 1 which ended up having no sense at all and adding not value to the main plot.
I can keep going and going but this is getting long, in conclusion, this is trash, don't waste your time. If you're a fan of the animated show, this live action will give you more headaches than entertainment.
