This movie is underrated; this is for all the girls that felt unloved by their estranged fathers but ended up in safe feminine spaces, with sisters and grandmothers and aunts and cousins. Creating a kinship unlike any other. Learning to love yourself despite how the mistakes of others make you question your own existence.
I would have rated this movie five stars but I felt it needed more of what we got in the ending; natural tension, emotional arguments and funny scenes (like when Suzu stands naked in front of the fan and her stern sister Sachi reprimands her). I felt it lacked, at crucial moments, the warmth it showed through out the whole movie but I understand that this might just be a cultural difference. I am an islander, although we, as well, collectively repress our emotions for the sake of others, it is human to break down every so often.
