Well first of all Will Smith was terrible. He looked goofy as the genie and only did cool magic stuff for like 15 minute and than was a regular dude. His joke were very one note and his only attitude was typical Will Smith “cool and chill” there were very few visual gags and jokes. This basically made the entire original film, Robin Williams could play multiple characters and multiple voices with excellent comedic timing including with visual gags. This is almost completely absent save for a couple scenes. Moving on the CGI was also garbage. Most of the effects will be outclassed in 3 years and it didn’t look realistic. Which still why would you want the cute animal sidekicks to be realistic? I wouldn’t want a gross monkey on my shoulder I’d want a cute one. The parrot didn’t have the funny New Yorker voice. Jafar was not scary at all. Several scenes are lost of their scale due to it not being animated. The best scene in the original where Aladdin fights Jafar I the throne room is gone. In a vacuum without the original yeah I’d say it’s a mediocre Disney movie but absolutely nothing compared to the OG.
