Transphobic. Subtle ideology to vilify the trans community. This book has an effect on both the child and the parent reading. For the child it insinuates that being trans is just “pretend taken too far” and likens the trans experience to play and dress-up. For the parent it positions any opposition to the right-wing ideology as “the internet people”, dismissing the fact that the right-wing community has a strong presence online as “internet people”. It also presents the right-wing ideology as simply wanting to “support” the mother who “deep down feels something is wrong”, thus indulging in many parent’s pre-conceived bias against the trans community from their own generational context. The book also positions the trans experience as uncomfortable for the trans individual as they under go the transition process, and while many experiences being trans can be uncomfortable, it does not speak for every tran individual’s experience. Overall harmful ideology. I would give it 0 stars.
