Watching Earthspark gave me the exact same childhood glee and excitement I had when I was younger and watching Transformers Prime on Nickelodeon. The show is so full of life and love and I cannot wait until new episodes come out. The characters are so endearing and there’s so much to love about all of them, from Megatron being still that loveable ruthless leader but with a sort of grizzled old villain trying to be good, along with Elita One finally making an appearance in a series where she’s her own character and not a plot device!! The terrans are all so wonderful and I think they’ll be great role models for new kids getting into transformers. The metaphors about various difficult topics are handled so expertly and are so well executed in the eyes of the Terrans. And God, I love Nightshade. I love how they turn into one of my favourite animals and how younger, closeted me would have been obsessed with them because I’d have someone to contextualize my confusing feelings about my gender and also be a super cool bird. Their centre episode where they struggled to fit in with their siblings or find some connections with like-minded people who shared their interests reminded me a lot about how I was as an autistic kid surrounded by allistic kids. Characters like Nightshade are so important because when kids engage in media like this, they need some sort of message that their identity and who they are can still be a hero in a story. I love Earthspark so much. I can’t wait for more episodes.
