After seeing this book recommended over many different platforms, I had high hopes! Most YA books are either a huge hit or a complete miss.
Unfortunately, this book was a complete miss. By page 39, I was bored. I was so bored, and tired of the main character. 39 pages of repeated information, just written differently. 39 pages of the main character being a martyr over the abortion pill she took at the doctors office. Every other sentence was her “wincing in pain from her lower stomach.” Searching for pain meds, because the pain was just so unbearable. It’s been at least a week since she had her abortion, but this girl just keeps going on and on about it. It’s very cringe. She says she can’t talk to her mom openly, yet at 16, she has a specific gynecologist that she sees. Her mom takes her to these appointments because apparently you have to be 17 to drive in this town. 17 is also apparently the age of consent. Just awful writing, but, her mom suggests she tell her ex-boyfriend about the abortion. To which this little hoe replies back, “it wasn’t his.” As she curls up with her heating pad and really just milks the whole martyr position.
But, I continued on and kept reading. The writing continues to be subpar, with repetitive information being shared. It becomes extremely predictable and by the end of the book you feel a little disappointed in yourself for not putting the book down and walking away.
Skip this book. It’s pure garbage.
