Absolute gem of a game, Kumi Souls deserves far more credit then they're currently getting for this remarkable experience! Don't go into it expecting Blasphemous 3, this is totally its own thing and should be treated as such. Picture Symphony of the Night mashed up with Bloodborne (BB for the aesthetic alone, gameplay is quite a bit different and more akin to Souls) and you have The Last Faith.
Biomes feel hand-stitched with the utmost care and each boss encounter feels fleshed-out and meaningful. Enemy design is varied and plentiful, with the classic system of displaying a new enemy's name upon death; just like the OG Castlevania games. If you love old-school Metroidvanias and appreciate the roots of the genre (as well as a genuinely challenging and engaging Soulslike), this game is 100% for you and well-worth the price-tag.
[WARNING FOR NEWCOMERS]:
If you get to Damned Ruins of the Osseus Fortress before acquiring double-jump or air-dash, take heed once you make it to a screen with white banshees shooting ice at you. In the lower right corner, there is a ladder that leads to a ledge; which in turn leads to a room with a combat challenge and a mini-boss. YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF STUCK IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE AFOREMENTIONED ABILITIES, AND WILL LOSE ALL SOULS AS YOU WILL NEED TO JUMP OFF THE LEDGE TO GET UNSTUCK. This was the only thing that almost prevented me from giving this game a 5, but a small oversight like this is a pebble in the ocean compared to how many great things this game has to offer.
