First of all, I am reviewing seasons 1-11, as beyond that it is an incredibly different show with lackluster writing. However, the first 11 seasons (and ESPECIALLY seasons 1-5) are what I truly believe to be the greatest of any show I've seen. It is challenging to even provide a description of the show, but the best I can do is that brings together the emotional depth of Mad Men, the excitement of Breaking Bad, the depravity and excess of The Wolf of Wall Street, and better humor than can be found anywhere else. My single favorite show, beyond any shred of doubt.

First and foremost it is by no means a BAD show, but it is not good either. As others have mentioned, it does have some deep and comedic moments, especially in season one. However, beyond the first season, it just feels like a chore to watch. I normally love dark comedies and adult animation (Archer and Mad Men are my personal favorites), but Bojack Horseman falls notably short of those others. While Archer and Mad Men encapsulate and effectively present flaws of the powerful, Bojack Horseman feels like someone turned John Gabriel Borkman into a pseudo-sexualized children's show bursting to the brim with animal puns. Certainly not the worst show I've seen, and I can see how it attracts a loyal fan base, but ultimately not for me.
