Extraordinarily writing style, thought provoking and insightful. I've read a number of saramago's books; this one stands out.

Really enjoyed the drama music and dancing. On the surface it's a great yarn, but it does have quite nationalist undertones. India has a great history to be proud of and a great current film industry too. Much more enjoyable than much of the visual trash thrown out of its lesser near namesake (Hollywood). It's the singing and colour that thrills me- and the fact that it has subtitles in English is great given that I'm partially deaf. Hurray for Tanhaji.
