Amazing movie with talented actors. Watched it due to Bai Jingting and Chen Kun. Loved it because of it's fantastic story line and great characters. Edit: After reading other reviews, I would like to add some thoughts of my own. 1. This isn't real Chinese history (Some of you probably knew this, just pointing out to those that praised it for the history value). The story is based on a fictional dynasty. There is no Tian Sheng or Da Cheng. I do love this drama because of this fact. 2. This series is a novel adaptation. Total of 6 books. The name was originally 《凰权》by 天下归元。You all could check it out. Total of six books would need to squeeze into 70 episodes, definitely some parts were missed out. 3. According to fans of the original novel (on Taobao淘宝), the story doesn't end with Zhiwei jumping of a cliff. She faked her death. Ningyi "died " later too. And they lived happily ever after. Which is the ending most people hoped for. Edit 2: I've been reading the novel myself and it turned out to be quite different from the drama series. -SPOILERS from the novel- The first time Zhiwei and Ningyi met, Zhiwei killed the 5th wife of her uncle. And this is just the beginning of the novel. Zhiwei's description are more brutal, cold-hearted and twisted. Due to a few violent plots, the film makers are forced to make an adaptation that seemed to detest the original readers and fans of the novel series. This is one of the factors to why this movie receive less views and acknowledgement compared to other drama series of the same time. Lastly, I would definitely recommend this drama series. Love it 10/10(even though so many characters died).
