I started watching this show when Charlie Rose and Norah O'Donnell were anchors. It was such a breath of fresh air in comparison to the other morning shows. Once Charlie was fired, I was skeptical...but John Dickerson is brilliant and I thought he did a great job of filling Charlie's shoes. I've always wondered how Gayle King got this job. She's pure fluff and never feels like a real journalist. She's slowly becoming more and more opinionated and seems completely out of place with serious guests.
Tony Dokopil is obviously brilliant, although he's probably dismissed as the "hunky" anchor. I've seen him be steamrolled in interviews, so he still has a lot to learn. When Dickerson was replaced with Anthony Mason, I thought it was another great fit. But, ever since Gayle King interviewed R. Kelly, her star has been rising...and she became more and more prominent on the show. She interrupts constantly. It was only fitting that, with Gayle having more power on the show, that someone like Anthony Mason, a genuine journalist with years of experience, would be replaced by an ex-football player. I'm so embarrassed for CBS that anyone thought this would work. He seems like a nice fella, but Jesus, he has no idea what the hell is going on. He can't even put a proper sentence together...I feel bad for him. Surely there are amazing black journalists out there who could have filled his spot. Frankly, I'm appalled that other correspondents like Jaricka Duncan or Errol Barnett were not given this spot. It just adds up to more dumbing down of America. Meanwhile, people like John Oliver and Trevor Noah are where young people actually tune in to get their news. CBS miscalculated terribly...I'm no longer watching. It's just awful.
