In many ways, this is much closer to Kipling's stories than previous movie efforts. Noteworthy was that Kaa finally isn't treated in an adaption as a villain.
There are even echoes of the story "In the Rukh," in which Mowgli is an adult and to which the "Jungle Book" stories are a prequel.
