So, I actually watched the film and it was a poignant, heartbreaking film that is designed to make adults uncomfortable. There is no sugarcoating the fact that children, especially young girls, in this era of easy access to society’s objectification of women and blatant “sex sells” marketing robs children of their childhood. It also succinctly captures the hypocrisy of society. I haven’t seen much criticism about how 11-year old Amy and her friends are expected by their parents to raise themselves. The only tragedy I see is that the very important study of children’s lost childhood was, as expected, completely missed by tone deaf adults who’d rather criticize the messenger then hear the hard message that requires them to do the hard but critical work of actually being parents.
