I just finished reading this book minutes ago. I I don't know much about contemporary literature but "Fay" must be well known. It deserves to be. It's a work of art.
The books language has a slow Southern Mississippi cadence like the long wandering, lost walks of Fay, and the soft poignant movement of her thoughts and speech....A powerful novel. The author takes his time to slowly construct real people that you care about. It's a world of strip bars, the broken women that dance in them, and service the drunken, brutal men that more likely than not carry loaded guns next to their coolers of beer in their fired up pickup trucks. Now that I've read it I'll never forget it. Do read this book. The author accomplished what William Faulkner tried to.
It is a gift.
